20 Indian Americans make their run for US Congress, raise over $15.5 million

This year a record number of 20 Indian Americans are running for upcoming congress elections, all the members together, collectively have already raised over $15.5 Million, as per the latest data, seven of those have raised over a million each to reach the target.

Within the time period of six months the NRI members are trying to prove themselves to go for November Congressional election, except for Hirlal Tipirneni, who is running for April 24 special elections in Arizona, the figure of more than $15.5 million raised by Indian Americans so far that cloud be a huge record for itself for any ethnic community in the United States.

Traditionally, a significant amount of money is raised by candidates in the last two decades.

As per the recorded evidence of fund raising figures, released by Federal Election commission, Congressman, Raja Krsihnamoorthi from Illinois sate has raised maximum, of over $3.5 million.

Krishnamoorthi is seeking for reelection from his eight congressional district in Illinois.

The opposition stood against him is from Republic party.

Another interesting fact is that a Independent candidate, who is also Indian- American scientist and entrepreneur Shiv Ayyadurai is also running for the seat from Massachusetts for the US Senate  .

The other three Indian Congressman Ro Khanna, Dr Ami Bera and Pramila Jayapal, each of the three have raised more than million each. Krishnammorthi, Kanna,Bera and jayapal are the four Indian Americans in the present house of Representatives. They are collectively called a team of Samosa Caucus.

According to the Federal election commission it is said that Khanna is seeking re election from California’s 17th Congressional district, he has raised about $2 million till march 31.

He is followed by many other leaders like Pramila Jayapal, who is first ever Indian American to be elected to the house of Representatives raising funds of worth $1.3 million. She is seeking her re election from the seventh congressional District of Washington state.
