Police fire teargas at Charlotte protesters blocking highway!

Following the fatal police shooting of a black man in Charlotte, the situation turned uglier on the third day, when the police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators blocking a main highway.

The AFP reported, protesters in the southern US city fled after police with rifles fired the tear gas and what appeared to be rubber bullets.

Earlier, one lane of a major highway near the Bank of America Stadium was blocked by several hundred demonstrators, with some lying down as panicking drivers turned their cars around and drove off in the wrong direction.

North Carolina's governor has declared a state of emergency in Charlotte and hundreds marched to the city police station carrying signs saying "Stop killing us" and "Resistance is beautiful."

Mr Scott, who is black, has lived in Charlotte for the last 18 years, said that, “There is a very thin crust of people of people at the top who want you to think I am black and you are white.”  “What you saw last night was police allowing a pressure valve to open. And every time it opens to let out the pressure, when the people in power close it again they close it even tighter,” Mr Scott said.

“The first thing you have to have is proper assertion without intimidation,” Mr Crump said. “The second thing you have to have is your face: We are involved in this community and we are a part of it, and I think people recognize that.”
