Shark bites off North Carolina woman's arm

A North Carolina woman’s Bahamas vacation turned into a nightmare when a deadly shark attacked her last week, biting off her right ram.

Tiffany Johnson was enjoying the last stop of their cruise vacation along with her husband James Johnson. Tiffany, who is mother of three encountered the shark while snorkeling in a shallow reef.

"I wasn’t in pain, it just felt like I had bumped into something so I just casually turned to my right to look to see and that’s when I was face-to-face with the shark," the 32-year-old said.

He had my whole arm in his mouth and he was just floating there staring at me,” the shark held on her for a few minutes before completely severing part of her limb. Her husband James jumped in to help when he heard a scream.

The couple is now back at their in Concord, Charlotte. But faced a horrific deal getting out of the Bahamas, in addition to the trauma of being attacked by a shark.

Doctors in Bahamas stopped the bleeding, but she could not get back to the states because of passports and customs issues.

They said that a Medevac flight back to a hospital in North Carolina would cost $16,000, but that the Medevac company offered to pay the expense.

Tiffany will have another surgery this week as she continues to recover from the last leg of her Caribbean cruise gone wrong.

"I’m just so thankful. I'm thankful to be here," Johnson said after the attack. "I'm thankful to be able to share this story and I hope, and I know, that it’s going to change people's lives because you can't hear this story and not see God in it."
