Nikki Haley Pledges to Strengthen India-U.S. Relations

United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who is currently in India said she is here to reinforce bilateral relations and to proceed the democratic bonds.

Haley is the highest-ranking American of Indian-origin in the U.S. President Donald Trump's administration. Haley is said to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj later in the day.

"I am here to once again solidify our love for India, our belief in the friendship that India and the US have and our willingness to make that relation even stronger," Haley said during her visit to the Humayun's tomb.

Haley said Indian and the U.S. shared the value of freedom, mentioning that there was multiple levels of opportunities between the two countries.

"Whether it is countering terrorism, whether it is the fact that we want to continue our democratic opportunities, or start to work together more strongly on the military aspect, there are lots of things that India and the US have in common," she said.

She further added saying, "It is great to be back."

Haley will be meeting senior Indian officials, Non-Governmental Organization leaders, business leaders, students, and members of the inter-faith community, during her two-day visit.

It is Haley's first trip to India after being appointed as the U.S. ambassador to the UN.
