India To Host U-17 Women’s World Cup In 2020

India will host the FIFAUnder-17 Women's Football World Cup in 2020.

The following announcement came from the President of International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino after the council meeting in Miami, USA on Friday.

Gianni Infantino said, FIFA is delighted to announce that India has been confirmed as the host of the Women's World Cup.

Javier Ceppi, the U-17 men’s World Cup tournament director congratulated India after being declared the hosts for the event. He said “amazing news for India and the women’s game”.

All India Football Federation President Praful Patel said, “A very proud moment and a honour that our country #India and #AIFF has been confirmed as the host of #FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020. We will strive to make it a grand success.”

In a statement AIFF president Patel said, “We felt the football evolution which India attained in the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 needed to continue, and as part of AIFF’s commitment towards development of Women’s Football, we decided to bid for the U-17 Women’s World Cup,”

“The tournament will be massive as this time it will also galvanise the girls of the country, making it more popular,” he added.

“However, winning the bid was a lesser challenge. The bigger challenge of hosting the showpiece actually lies ahead, especially after the standards which we have set for ourselves in the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017,” the AIFF President said

“I need to thank FIFA for keeping their trust in us, and granting us the rights to host the tournament. I am also grateful to the Government of India for their support, and giving us the necessary guarantees which made this bid possible,” he added.

For Being the host country, Indian U-17 women’s team will enter the tournament for the first time in history.

This will be the second FIFA tournament India will be hosting, after the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017.
