Indian American Shot Dead in North Carolina

Fayetteville City, NC Nov 12:
An Indian American Motel owner was shot dead in Fayetteville, NC on Nov 12th. The deceased Akash Talati originally from Anand in Gujarat, owned Knights Inn and Diamondz Gentlemen's Club in Fayetteville city of NC.  He was just standing by when a man escorted out of the club by security guards, opened fire. This resulted in death of Akash and injuring 4 others which led to the closure of roads nearby.

Police detective Jamaal Littlejohn released the statement stating the details which led to the shooting outside the night club. The police were called at 1:51 am and Markeese Dewitt; 23 years, from Fayetteville NC has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries.

In a series of tweets Sushma Swaraj and the Ministry of External affairs from India has confirmed that Akash R Talat was residing in US from past 10 years and he owned the Motel and bar. His parents still live in Anand, Gujarat and have been under shock ever since.

The Police Detective stated that Markeese was shot 4 to 5 times and was in a serious condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Centre. Jamaal also stated that the security guards and the victim were the only ones who exchanged gunfire and the rest all injured were bystanders.

Akash Talati is survived by his wife Mital and an eight year old son Jay. "When Akash tried to intervene, the assailants opened firing inside the motel leaving three other employees in the motel injured. Akash died on the spot. After the police reached there, the injured were shifted to hospital where condition of one employee is still critical," said a family friend of Akash.

Akash died at hospital where one other is still in critical condition. The names of the injured have still not been released but the record stated two others including a female who operated cash register at the nightclub and a security guard are among those injured.

"A Diamondz Gentleman's Club security guard fired back, hitting the suspect five times, Talati's family said," the CBS report said.

The series of incidents which led to shooting are yet not confirmed but Markeese was taken out of club by security for some disruptive activities by him, then he went to his car and brought a gun along, where is began shooting.

"All we know is he got put out, he goes and gets a gun and it goes crazy from there," Mr Jamaal Littlejohn said.

The investigation is still underway and the public is appealed to inform for any details or contacts they have regarding the incident.
