US President Donald Trump spoke on Sunday regarding Netflix's attempt to purchase the famous Hollywood studio Warner Bros., mentioning that the streaming service already holds "a significant market share" and "this could pose an issue." Trump stated, "I will participate in that decision," upon his arrival at the Kennedy Center Honors awards event, referencing the choice that federal regulators are making regarding the almost $83 billion agreement that has sparked antitrust worries and frustration among Hollywood's top figures. Trump also praised Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who recently met with him at the White House, claiming "he has done an incredible job in the film industry." If the agreement is finalized as it stands, Netflix would take over the competing streaming service HBO Max and Warner Bros. studios, which has created timeless films like "Casablanca" and "Citizen Kane," in addition to popular hits such as "Barbie." This purchase would provide Netflix with an extensive library, featuring a wide range of content, including the Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings films, and DC Studios' superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, to name a few.

However, if this deal proceeds, Netflix will not acquire television channels like Discovery and CNN, as those will be separated from Warner Bros. before the sale is finalized. The parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, officially announced it was for sale in October after receiving several unsolicited proposals, surpassing cable company Comcast and media group Paramount Skydance. Paramount's leader, David Ellison, is a significant supporter of Trump.
