Overtourism has emerged as a major issue for many countries around the world in the past few years. A recent report has revealed some of the most crowded tourist spots globally, emphasizing the seriousness of this problem through statistics. The information was gathered by Go2Africa, a company focused on safaris. According to its website, to create this report, the company gathered official tourism data from national tourism boards and reports to determine how many travelers visited each nation during a specific year. These numbers were then compared to the population figures for that year to find the ratio of tourists to local inhabitants for each location. Based on these calculations, Vatican City is recognized as the most crowded place for tourists in the world, with a ratio of 7,709 visitors for each resident. Following it are Andorra with 117 tourists for every local, and San Marino with 59 tourists for each resident. Read more below:

The ratio for Vatican City makes sense since it only covers 0.44 square kilometers and has very few residents. The report mentioned, "Its small population of 882 mainly includes clergy, diplomats, and officials, making it quite different from an ordinary country." Additionally, Vatican City serves as one of the most renowned pilgrimage destinations, carrying immense religious and cultural significance. Because of this, it continuously attracts travelers from all over the world. The report also pointed out that many overcrowded tourist spots are small island nations that are very popular among cruise ship travelers. "These locations often see huge, temporary increases in visitors that can put pressure on local facilities and have a negative effect on nearby communities. Nations like San Marino, the Bahamas, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Antigua and Barbuda often face significant cruise ship traffic, frequently welcoming more tourists in one day than they have residents."

Lately, worries about overcrowding have increased in various areas, both at home and abroad. Well-known tourist spots like Venice have taken different actions to reduce the number of visitors. Similarly, some hill stations in India are also making efforts to manage the number of tourists during the busy summer months.
