OnePlus 16 leaks and speculation have been in the news for several months. Nevertheless, its expected release in China is still a few months off. The rumored device, which is likely to replace last year's OnePlus 15 and the brand's current top model, has recently been said to come with much thinner edges compared to the previous version. A source now reports that this smartphone will also include an improved periscope camera with a 200-megapixel Samsung sensor, which was allegedly first seen in an unspecified Realme phone. The OnePlus 15 from last year comes with a back telephoto camera that is 50-megapixels with a Samsung JN5 sensor. In a message posted on Weibo, a Chinese social media site, the source Smart Pikachu (translated from Chinese) mentioned that the likely OnePlus 16 will have a 200-megapixel camera on the back, using the same sensor that has been previously used in a Realme device. While the source did not provide more information, Gizmochina mentioned that the phone will feature a 200-megapixel Samsung HP5 periscope sensor, which is also found in the Realme 16 Pro series and the Realme GT 8 Pro.

This aligns with a recent article that suggested the OnePlus 16 will be unveiled later this year, equipped with a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera on the back, alongside a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel multispectral sensor to improve color accuracy and picture quality. If this information is correct, then this phone would be a major upgrade from the OnePlus 15's 50-megapixel (f/2.8) Samsung JN5 telephoto camera, which allows 3.5x optical zoom, 7x optical quality zoom, an 80mm focal length, a 30-degree viewing angle, and autofocus. The OnePlus 16 is also anticipated to have bezels that are less than 1mm thick at the front, representing a notable enhancement over the OnePlus 15's 1.15mm-thick bezels. However, unlike earlier statements, it seems that it will not feature a built-in active cooling fan to manage heat. Furthermore, the smartphone is rumored to forgo shoulder triggers for gaming.

Additional reports indicate that the OnePlus 16 will run on Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor, combined with a 9,000mAh battery. However, the company has not yet confirmed any of these details.
