Democrats Name 20 U.S. Presidential Candidates for 1st Debate June 15, 2019 11:30

As many as 20 Democratic presidential candidates have qualified for the first debate scheduled to be held later this month ahead of the next year’s elections. Prominent names which were announced by the Democratic National Committee were California Senator Kamala Harris, former Vice President Joe Biden, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard. New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has been at loggerheads with President Donald Trump over immigration, also made the cut, CNN reported. In order to be eligible for taking part in the debate, candidates have to achieve 1 percent in at least three qualified polls or receive campaign donations from 65,000 unique donors, as well as 200 donors each from 20 different states. Four Democrats could not make their way into the list of the first round of debates, which will take place on June 26 and 27 in Miami, as a consequence less traction of their respective campaigns. The four Democrats were Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel, Montana Governor Steve Bullock, Massachusetts Representative Seth Moulton, and Mayor Wayne Messam of Miramar in Florida. Including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, several Democrats criticized the Trump administration over a number of issues especially on Special Counsel Rober Mueller’s report on alleged Russian meddling in 2016 elections and immigration. Some of them have even called for Trump's impeachment. However, comparing himself to former President Richard Nixon, Trump had said that he has done “great” for the country and will not leave. India's MoS External Affairs Minister V Muraleedharan Pledges to Resolve Major Expat Issues in UAE June 15, 2019 11:23

India’s newly appointed minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan has promised to expedite solutions relating to various issues of expatriates. From high air ticket prices to Indian destinations from the GCC and to issues faced by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) relating to the Aadhar card, Muraleedharan assured support. He was interacting with the media and members of the Indian community on Friday in Dubai. The minister visited Dubai while on a stopover from his official visit to Nigeria, where he participated in Nigeria's Democracy Day. His first official trip to the United Arab Emirates began with a meeting with the blue-collared workers at the Eversendai labor accommodation in DIP in the morning. He also met the members of the Indian business community during a meet organized by the Indian Business and Professionals Council, followed by an official reception at the Consulate-General of India in Dubai. The minister said making air travel to India flexible and comfortable for NRIs residing in the Gulf is a top priority, as presently Gulf NRIs face multiple issues while planning trips back home, especially the high cost of travel. Muraleedharan also said escalating airfare is an alarming issue and after his meeting with the minister for civil aviation, the price regulation on air tickets have been placed on a priority list. He added: "From Gulf region, there are a total of 1,050 flights that travel to various destinations across India every week. The grounding of Jet Airways flights has contributed more towards this problem. I think our priority should be to sort these issues out as soon as possible." He suggested that flights to India from Gulf region, especially to airports in Kerala, faced several issues, and he explained his plans on meeting with the respective authorities to resolve these issues as soon as possible. During the interactive session with members of the Indian community, Muraleedharan said he would like to take steps to make Indian airports more traveler-friendly. He added that several mechanisms were put into place to make traveling easier for Indians, including removing the ceiling on the baggage tax, reducing the number of screening processes, etc. "Our airports should help anyone who wants to travel. We are aiming to provide a friendly atmosphere," he stated. Meanwhile, in a bid to resume Emirates Airlines services to Kozhikode in Kerala, members of the business community, including Dr Azad Moopen, chairman, Aster DM Healthcare Group, along with James Mathew, senior partner and CEO of Crowe, and representatives from the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) had a meeting with the minister. According to officials at the KMCC, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has requested India's Ministry of Civil Aviation to grant Emirates a temporary approval to operate 2,500 weekly seats in each direction on the Dubai-Kozhikode route for a period of four months, effective from June 2019 for the summer high peak demand. "The minister has assured to take it up on priority with the cabinet secretary for civil aviation at New Delhi in two weeks. A response to the letter is anticipated from the Ministry of Civil Aviation of India for getting the necessary approvals from the authorities," said Anwar Naha of the Dubai chapter of KMCC. Muraleedharan said discussions for the Emigration Bill 2019 are in the final stages. However, it will not be tabled in this parliamentary session. The Ministry of External Affairs had proposed to introduce the Emigration Bill to replace the existing Emigration Act, 1983. He said the bill will focus on providing safety to workers aspiring to travel to Gulf countries. "The law would ensure that workers will not be cheated by fraudulent recruiting agents and the government will provide them with job protection and training. The workers will also be given post-departure counseling," he explained. However, when quizzed about the proposal to register NRI details on the e-migrate platform, Muraleedharan said the government is still mulling over the issue. "We are still discussing whether to make it mandatory or voluntary. However, I do hope we will be able to table this at the earliest possible parliamentary session," he added. By Sowmya Sangam

Rep. Pramila Jayapal Opens up About Her Own Abortion Story June 14, 2019 17:44

Indian American Representative of the United States Pramila Jayapal has recently opened up about the time when she decided to have an abortion years ago. By this, Jayapal has become the second member of Congress to speak publicly about choosing to get the procedure done, in an op-ed for the New York Times on Thursday. Jayapal spoke up that she had not publicly discussed it before “because it is an intensely personal decision,” adding the notes that “But I have decided to speak about it now because I am deeply concerned about the intensified efforts to strip choice and constitutional rights away from pregnant people and the simplistic ways of trying to criminalize abortion.” Her story came out in the wake when laws seeking to ban and criminalize abortions now sweeping across the South and Midwest. This surge has sparked many women like Pramila Jayapal to share their stories. The Democratic congresswoman said she had to make a “heartbreaking decision”. I have never spoken publicly about my abortion. I'm speaking now because of intensified efforts to strip Constitutional rights from pregnant people and to criminalize abortion.I shared my story in an Op-Ed with @nytimes.https://t.co/AjBxRLtBet — Rep. Pramila Jayapal (@RepJayapal) June 13, 2019 “For me, terminating my pregnancy was not an easy choice, but it was my choice,” Jayapal said. “That is the single thing that has allowed me to live with the consequences of my decisions. And that is what must be preserved, for every pregnant person.” There are so many stories that are far more traumatic than mine—low-income pregnant people and rape victims who face untenable choices. There are also stories out there that are not traumatic at all—just the free exercise of a protected right. But it must be their choice. — Rep. Pramila Jayapal (@RepJayapal) June 13, 2019 To this day, 22 years later, I think about those moments on the table in the doctor’s office. Terminating my pregnancy was MY choice. And it is a choice that must be preserved for every single pregnant person. pic.twitter.com/kT8ZtolzvO — Rep. Pramila Jayapal (@RepJayapal) June 13, 2019 She shed light on the current abortion storm, revealing what it was like to have an abortion 22 years ago after doctors warned her that she might face a second high-risk pregnancy. Talking further about how she had to make a difficult decision, Jayapal revealed, “I decided I could not responsibly have the baby. It was a heartbreaking decision, but it was the only one I was capable of making.” Jayapal also noted saying the abortion stories that exist reflect on traumatic stories of rape survivors. But other abortions, she added, are “just the free exercise of a protected constitutional right.” Jayapal, a mother and stepmother, added, “I am fortunate to live in a state where pregnant people’s right to make choices about their own bodies is protected, where so many less fortunate than me can still afford to have abortions, without encountering barriers like forced counseling and waiting periods.” By Sowmya Sangam

When you read a lot of finance books & blogs, you come across a ton of different personal finance tips and tricks, but none turns to exert influence on you. If you live by these 12 pieces of financial advice to follow you will have more control over your money, and you'll live a much better life financially. Spend Less Than You Earn    It's easy to know that you should be spending less than you earn but it's a lot harder to actually do it. But it is one of the most critical yet basic personal finance tips ever. However, if you want to escape the paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle that so many others live, you need to spend less than you earn. In order to do this, you need to track your spending by either writing down the purchases you may or by using a free personal finance application. Learn to Budget Budgeting is not hard, and it doesn't mean you have to stop doing things you enjoy. Budgeting is simply creating a plan for your money so you have a better idea of where it's going every month. The effective and popular method to budget is with the 50/30/20 rule. How it works is 50 percent of your income goes towards the necessities (bills, food, housing, etc.), 20 percent of your income goes towards savings and the remaining 30 percent you can use for whatever you please. This is a nice and easy way to break down your paycheck, but you might need to adjust it a bit to fit your lifestyle. Break down Your Income and Expenses    Breaking down your expenses and income is an old This is an unusual little trick that can change the perspective you have about your money, and help you budget better. This will help you see to what extent purchases are going to set you back and affect your spending ability. Have Financial Goals If you want to accomplish financial goals, you need to figure out what goals are important to you first. Possessing a clear-cut goal can keep you motivated and help you come up with a plan to reach that goal even faster. Now, don't think that you need to set outrageous goals. If this is your first instance reasoning regarding your personal financial goals, begin with small and work your way up from there. It is suggested to come up with a few different goals in each of these categories: - What you want to accomplish in the following 3-months - In the next year - In the next five years This way you'll have some short-term goals to look forward too, and some long-term goals to work towards as well. Your short-term goals may even be small stepping stones towards your bigger goals. Pay Yourself First    This personal finance tip of paying yourself first is another common one that can have an immense impact on your finances. When you pay yourself first, you're investing in future you, you're investing in your financial future; and future you will thank present you for doing so. Thus, why not just pay yourself at the end of the month, which is a lot easier. Well, the reason why paying yourself first works so well is that once that money is sent to a savings account, you're a lot less likely to spend it. If you wait until the month end to pay yourself, you might not have any money left. To make your future blissful, start investing in yourself.   Credit Card Is Not Free Money    A credit card is a beneficial tool in your finance toolkit, but take note that it is not free money. When you buy something with your credit card it means you are borrowing money from the bank. If you don't give that money back soon enough, the bank is going to start charging interest on your balance. This debt can build up and turn out to be a monster if you don't pay off your balance every month. However, if you use a credit card responsibly and pay off the balance each month, it is a good mode to start building credit. Most credit cards also have other benefits such as cash back, rewards points, or travel points. If you're confident of paying off the balance fully every month, in that case, you should have no problem managing a credit card and staying out of debt. Communicate with Your Significant Other    The best way to avoid fighting about money with your significant other is to talk to them about it. Remember that you're a team. You should be talking to each other about your financial goals, and you should set a date once a month to go over your finances together. Don't let money ruin a great relationship. Know Your Net Worth    Although net worth can seem like a tricky subject, it's quite simple. Your net worth is how much money you are worth. If you were to sell everything you own, then pay off everything you owe and how much money would be left is considered as your net worth. Suppose you have a positive net worth, go on working to increase your net worth even more. In case you have a negative net worth, you are required to take a look at your budget and come up with a plan in order to increase your net worth. Start Investing Though investing is one of the best ways to increase your net worth, a lot of people keep one's eyes off from it since they are scared of losing money. Therefore instead of investing, they keep their money in a savings account. Indeed it is the bang-up idea of keeping some money in a savings account for emergencies, but the truth is that money in a savings account loses value over time. By Sowmya Sangam

Norway Chess: Viswanathan Anand Out of Contention After Losing to USA's Fabiano Caruana June 14, 2019 15:15

Viswanathan Anand, the five-time world champion, lost chances of a top-three finish after he went down fighting to Fabiano Caruana of United States in the Armageddon game at the Altibox Norway Chess. The Indian slipped to joint seventh place in ranking with just two rounds to go in one of the strongest events of the year. Anand had to hold himself with black and he survived many anxious and nearly catastrophic positions under the normal time control to force a draw under the Classical game. Caruana went to the extent of calling it “embarrassing”, as the American was close to being on top for several moves but still the victory deserted him. However, in the tiebreaker, which is the new world order in Chess to make it a decisive sport in every game played, the native Italian turned American was spot on in the Italian opening. Anand could not get the counterplay he is famous for and a systematic attack led to a complete collapse on the kingside. That left Anand with only six points with two more rounds to come and even two victories now might be insufficient to finish on the podium. The seemingly invincible reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen scored another victory - his sixth in Armageddon besides a lone win in Classical - over Wesley So wherein he “was gifted a point” according to the now second-placed Levon Aronian of Armenia. Carlsen just did enough, the Sicilian Sveshnikov in Classical, that has served him well and then Wesley turned the heat on in the faster game which only suited the best player on the planet currently. Carlsen took his tally to 11 points, and now enjoys a two-point lead over Aronian who played a fine tiebreaker to beat Yu Yangyi. Yangyi is in third place on 8.5 points, a full point ahead of compatriot Ding Liren in sole fourth spot. Wesley So is fifth on seven points while Caruana finds himself in the sixth spot on 6.5. Maxime vachier-Lagrave of France and Anand are tied seventh on six points apiece, a full point ahead of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan. Someone has to be last in any ten-player event and it seems Alexander Grischuk of Russia is going to be there till the end. The usually charismatic Russian is not finding any good moves and is still in the cellar on 3.5 points. By Sowmya Sangam

Beware! WhatsApp Will Now Sue It's Users If Found Violating Terms of Use June 14, 2019 14:53

In a new move, WhatsApp will be going ahead and sue the account holder if the user found to be violating the terms of conditions of using the app by sending bulk messages or auto-forwarding. Previously, the company merely remove the user’s account. It is as yet not clear as to how exactly the legal action would be proceeded against, except that this new regime will come into effect from December 7 this year. The change in the approach towards rogue accounts has come to light from an entry appearing in the FAQ section of WhatsApp, under the heading Unauthorized Usage of WhatsApp. The exact wordings are as below: "Beginning on December 7, 2019, WhatsApp will take legal action against those we determine are engaged in or assisting others in the abuse that violates our Terms of Service, such as automated or bulk messaging, or non-personal use, even if that determination is based on information solely available to us off our platform".    As mentioned, the details of this legal action are not known. The questions such as, will it be country-specific? Will WhatsApp open a legal cell in each country it operates in to file these cases or to send the legal notices? These may be revealed later. This move by WhatsApp is seemingly to be an outcome of a white paper that it published early this year in which its stand on users resorting to bulk messages and automated behavior was described and some of the steps it proposes to take against such violations of the terms of usage of WhatsApp. In that document, it was mentioned, that accounts could get banned at the time of registration, during messaging and also based on complaints from other users. WhatsApp has mentioned in the white paper that has machine learning systems in place to detect such accounts. Interestingly, WhatsApp claims it removes millions of accounts every month for these excesses. By Sowmya Sangam

The accused, a native of Nellore and resident of Begumpet in Hyderabad was arrested previously by Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabadpolice in connection with similar cases of fraud, police said. (Image Source: News18 Telugu) In May this year, Archana contacted a family who was looking for a bride for their techie son resident in the United States claiming to be Pushtayi, a resident of Chennai. She used the images of another woman on her matrimonial profile and expressed her interest in marrying the techie. Archana started having a talk with the techie online, where she one of these days sent him several images of the unidentified woman whose picture she had used in her profile on the matrimony website. In a short time, the women asked the techie to send him money to buy gold and platinum ornaments. However, after receiving the money, she stopped responding to his calls. Upon realizing that the woman cheated their son, the groom’s father filed a complaint against “Pushtayi”. In order to make easy money, she resorted to cheating grooms who are living abroad and in search of Telugu brides. “Whenever parents of a groom expressed their interest in meeting her in person, Archana would put forth her demands, collect the money, and subsequently, abscond. She has cheated several NRI grooms by simply using pictures of other women on her profile,” police said on Wednesday.
