T issue rocks LS for third day, House adjourned twice

For the third consecutive day today, the TRS, Congress and TDP members of the Telangana region stalled the business of the Lok Sabha on the issue of Telangana forcing the Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn the house twice till 2 pm.

Holding placards reading ‘Introduce Telangana Bill immediately’, ‘implement your promise’, ‘indecision hurting more than division of state’ and ‘how many more deaths are required for separate Telangana’, the members barged into the well of the House and began disrupting the proceedings as soon as the House assembled. The Speaker adjourned the proceedings till noon.

When the House met again during zero hour after the first adjournment, Opposition leader Ms Sushma Swaraj demanded the Government to hold talks with the protestors agitating for separate statehood.

Observing that the Government’s inaction was leading to increasing number of suicides daily in Telangana, Sushma said neither Telangana is being formed nor Government is holding talks with the agitating leaders. “How will the issue be solved?” she asked the Government.

She also asked the Speaker to allow the agitating members to speak on their demands. However, Meira Kumar said she has been requesting the members to go back to their seats and speak on their demands for the last two days but to no avail.

At this juncture, the T region members stormed into the house and continued with their demands and slogans disrupting the business of the house. The Speaker had to adjourn the House till 2 PM again. (J)
