U.S. fugitive Enward Snowden is still stuck in the transit zone of Moscow Airport despite being granted a temporary asylum as Havana banned him from flying to Cuba.

Snowden, U.S most wanted whistleblower wanted to fly to Havana from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport a day after arriving from Hong Kong on June 23.

However, Snowden, who eventually accepted a year's asylum in Russia, did not turn up for the flight despite being allocated a seat.

Apparently, Snowden didn't show up for the flight as he was barred by Cuba officials from boarding the Aeroflot flight.

It's believed that Cuba changed its mind at the eleventh hour after United States pressured the country not to grant refuse to the spy. Allowing Snowden to enter Cuba could have strained it's relations with the United States.

Kommersant also said Snowden had spent a couple of days in the Russian consulate in Hong Kong to declare his intention of flying to Latin America via Moscow.

"His choice of route and his plea to help were a complete surprise to us. We did not invite him," Kommersant quoted a Russian state source as saying.
