Afghanistan stated on Wednesday that it is open to reaching a complete ceasefire and wants to solve all matters through conversation with Pakistan, aiming to reduce tensions between the two countries. An announcement from Afghan officials mentioned that the agreement would involve a total ceasefire, mutual respect, preventing attacks on each other's security forces, civilians, and facilities, and a promise to resolve any disagreements through discussion. The relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been tense since 2023, with Islamabad frequently expressing worries about militants using Afghan territory to launch cross-border assaults. The situation became more serious after various attacks by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), including a recent incident in the troubled Orakzai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that resulted in the deaths of 11 military personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major.

The latest fighting started after deadly explosions in Kabul on October 9. The Taliban government accused Pakistan and carried out retaliatory attacks, leading to a series of clashes at the border that caused injuries and fatalities on both sides, involving both soldiers and civilians. A temporary ceasefire lasting 48 hours was declared last Wednesday, and a second ceasefire followed on Sunday after new Pakistani airstrikes targeted what Islamabad called militant hideouts in Afghanistan — a claim that Kabul contests.
