Swimming is the best exercise to lose weight and tone your muscles but the lesser known fact is that swimming also helps in maintaining a healthy heart. Swimming strengthens the heart by increasing the efficiency to pump blood.

It is said that coronary heart diseases in women can be reduced up to 30-40 percent with half an hour of swimming every day and it also helps in reducing blood pressure and raising the good cholesterol levels.

The below mentioned are few ways how swimming can improve the health of your heart:

Improves breathing:

Swimming helps in improving the functioning of the lungs which in turn makes your breathing efficiently and further improving your heart rate and blood pressure.

It is found out that, swimmers can breathe much efficiently in terms of being faster and longer in a single breath when compared to the individuals who do not swim.

The resting heart rate in an average person is 60-70 beats where as the resting heart rate in a swimmer is 40 which reduces the risk of hear attack and heart related diseases as lower the heart rate, lesser you will be prone to heart diseases.

Boots up your metabolism:

Swimming makes your metabolism to boost up and helps your body to function at a greater rate. Thirty minutes of every day swimming is equivalent to 45 minutes of land-based exercises says a study.

Improves blood circulation :

Swimming improves the circulation of blood in your body as it helps in functioning of your heart which helps in increasing the heart rate.
