Apple Inc. ramped up its iPhone manufacturing in India by around 53% last year, now producing one out of every four of its flagship models there. This change shows the company's attempt to steer clear of tariffs that apply to China. In 2025, Apple put together approximately 55 million iPhones in India, increasing from 36 million the previous year, according to sources who chose to remain unnamed as this information is not public. Globally, Apple produces around 220 million to 230 million iPhones annually, and India's share is growing quickly. Recently, Apple has sped up its growth in the most populated country in the world, supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s incentives linked to production, which aim to turn India into a major manufacturing hub. These financial aids have helped reduce some of the disadvantages that manufacturers encounter in India, such as the absence of a strong supply chain like that of China and various logistical issues.

In 2025, shipments from China, where Apple primarily produces iPhones, encountered challenges due to US tariffs linked to the trade conflict between the two economic giants. These tariffs encouraged Apple and its suppliers to shift a larger portion of devices aimed at the US market to different manufacturing locations, with India becoming a significant positive option. An Apple representative chose not to provide any comments.
