Apple's latest iOS 26 update has drawn criticism from iPhone users who say the software is quickly using up their phone batteries, as reported by New York Post. This update was revealed during Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June and was officially released earlier this week. But soon after people installed it, they started sharing reports of major battery problems on social media. One user on X said, "I just charged my phone completely 58 minutes ago, and it's already down to 79%. iOS 26 is making my phone useless." This surge in complaints follows recent dissatisfaction over the design of the upcoming iPhone 17, which some Apple supporters have called "ugly," according to the news site.
In the past, similar problems have sometimes fixed themselves once background processes finished, but many users are still unhappy. "Wow, what's going on? My phone has been overheating since I updated to iOS 26, and suddenly my battery health dropped to 80%," said another user. "I haven't even changed how I charge it.""Clearly, iOS 26 has a battery problem," complained a third user, feeling like the effort isn't worth the outcome. "I used my work phone less than normal this morning and I'm already at 50%." However, Apple reassured customers that this initial battery issue is just a normal glitch. The company published a statement online to let the public know there is no reason to worry.
"This is normal since your device needs time to finalize the setup in the background, including organizing data and files for searching, downloading new materials, and updating apps," Apple stated on a support page. "Right after finishing an update, especially a major one, you might see a temporary effect on battery life and heat performance."
