Man Charged in Bomb Threat at North Carolina GOP Office

A man has been arrested on terrorism charges after calling in a bomb threat to Republican Party headquarters.

According to the officials, a chairman entered the headquarters on Asheville Highway around 10:30 a.m. and found multiple threatening voice mails left by the same man. The messages were described as very vulgar and the suspect was reportedly angry about a pamphlet left on his property.

The suspect said he left a bomb at the GOP headquarters, officers said. A bomb dog with the State Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene and the building was evacuated. The investigation didn't turn up anything suspicious. The building has been cleared for re-entry around 2:45 pm,  investigators said.

The detectives from the police department worked to identify the suspect. Detectives identified Dylan James Schacht of Hendersonville as the suspect responsible for making the threat, and he was arrested.

Schacht was charged with one count of filing a false report concerning a destructive device and one count of terrorism. He is currently being held at the Henderson County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
